HOW TO CARE

Indonesia is the home of the TEAK TREE

Introducing the stars of our designs: Indonesia is home to the TEAK TREE, which has been the preferred wood for crafting luxurious homes, furniture, and even boats for the elite for thousands of years. Kalingga Putra exclusively sources wood from state-owned plantations, ensuring the trees are cultivated and cared for with the utmost attention, promoting sustainable forestry and combating illegal logging and trade. Teak is remarkably flexible and strong, featuring a high oil content, excellent tensile strength, and a tight grain, making it ideal for weather-resistant applications. Its color ranges from shimmering silver to rich honey, depending on the surface treatment, and the wood requires minimal maintenance to ensure its longevity.

Simple, fast and
flexible

Local communities throughout Southeast Asia have a long-standing tradition of using RATTAN fibers to weave baskets, chairs, furniture, and utensils. In contrast to bamboo, rattan is solid and can be bent into various shapes without sacrificing strength and durability. Due to its natural flexibility, rattan is an ideal material for furniture designed to withstand varying temperatures and humidity levels.

How to clean teak

Regularly cleaning your teak furniture can help prevent mildew and discoloration. A simple wash with mild soap and water, along with a bit of bleach or vinegar, usually does the job. Be sure to use a soft plastic brush, as metal brushes can scratch and damage the wood’s surface.

For tougher stains, you can use a commercial teak cleaner. Always begin with the gentlest cleaning solution; if that doesn’t work, then move on to something stronger.

Oiling teak furniture

Oiling teak furniture is intended to maintain and enhance the wood’s natural golden hue. Many people prefer this appearance over the natural weathering that occurs when the wood is left untreated. Oiled teak is ideal for indoor use, where conditions are more stable. If you decide to oil outdoor furniture, you’ll need to perform maintenance more frequently—every 5 to 6 months—and keep it out of direct sunlight. Apply oil to teak furniture only after it has been thoroughly cleaned. Cleaning removes any natural oils that have accumulated on the surface, and applying a fresh coat of oil will help restore the wood’s original character.
